The Size of the Truth is Andrew Smith’s first middle grade novel, and what an achievement it is. The book itself stands out to me as one of Smith’s best, even without taking into consideration that he has shifted from a young adult to a middle grade audience. In The Size of the Truth, each character has his or her own truth as they know it. But can there. Eleven-year-old Sam Aberna. Make no mistake: The Size of the Truth is a bizarre novel, as per usual for Andrew Smith. Certain phrases are repeated ad nauseam, it's difficult to tell whether the story ultimately makes sense, and the characters are a mix of neurotic personalities and hackneyed stereotypes.
